  • Hi folks,
I have the dubious honour of being the last ever Barr Thomson apprentice. I worked there right up until the firms demise in September 1993 and during my early training spent some time working at the forge on this press.

Ed: Thanks David, so nice to receive comments like this from people who have worked with Fielding presses in the past. Far from being a dubious honour I think it is at the top of the tree! John B

  • This press is still in operation at Arconic Forgings, Ickles Works, Rotherham.

Ed: Steven, many thanks for the information. Good to know! I believe the purchaser of the press from Barr Thompson was Firth Rixon, who was acquired by Arconic in 2014. John B

  • I was the junior draughtsman at Barr Thomson when this press was being installed.

Andrew Ross was the senior draughtsman and Tom Ferguson was also a draughtsman at Barr Thomson when the forging press was installed .
