  • Most impressed with your website. I worked for the Hydraulic Engineering Co Chester from 1969 to 1984. We had a Sales Engineer, Garfield James, who had worked for Fielding and Platt. I was a young man in the DO but he was a real gentleman who hailed from the Forest of Dean. I also have a F & P catalogue dated 1896.

Ed: Robert, many thanks for your contribution. Garfield James left F & P in 1975 and so I guess he may have worked in Chester for a period of time. I got to know Roy Whittingham very well when Chester Hydraulics became part of Fielding & Platt International. I do recall visiting the works in the early 1970s when F & P sub contracted to Chester the build of some Redman bumper bar hydraulic power packs. I am sure that viewers would like to see illustrations of the 1896 catalogue. John B
