'New' Fitting Shop photograph

Circa mid 1990's

Click on a photograph to enlarge an image.

This shop was completed in the early 1970’s. It was sited on the south side of Baker Street (The Black Road). The first photograph was taken from one of the remotely controlled cranes, probably around  the mid 1990’s. The second one shows the shop layout. Accompanying this would have been an information sheet giving shop dimensions, floor loading capacities and crane details etc.

Does anyone recognize any of the machines being erected or any of the people in the photograph. If you do then share your memories  by clicking on the words Add a comment about this page below.

  • Hi John!   The first photo view is looking towards the roller door, leading out to the car park area. I believe the first photo illustrates three Henry Berry Radiator Core Assembly machines under construction. The other two presses would appear to be standard 400 ton Three Mould Concrete Presses with Handling Gear.

Fielding & Platt International Ltd., was formed in 1995 merging the activities of Henry Berry (Leeds), John Shaw (Manchester), Chester Hydraulics (Chester) and Edwards of Enfield (Gloucester). Assembly of presses and equipment would for the foreseeable future be centred in Gloucester.   John B
