  • Hi John! In the first picture the man looking at the drawing is, I am sure, Sid Smart. I don’t remember Sid on the ‘shop floor’, I think he must have moved into the offices by the time I was out in the works, or at least by the time I would have known him. Another of the wonderful characters we had at F&P! I can’t put names to the other four men in the picture or the engineer in the white coat. Mind you, he could be a customers man? Chippy Aston.

  • Hi Chippy!  You are correct with the identification of Sid Smart. You may also be interested to know that this press is still in production.  F&P supplied a new main cylinder and a refurbished main ram in 1996, that was installed by John Little over a 10 day period in the ’96 Christmas shutdown.  John B
