Jack Fielding’s daughter, Pippa, discusses her father’s Christmas cards. As a draughtsman, he was highly skilled at drawing his cards, but relied on the company’s photographer to create prints of them.

It has given me great joy this Christmas to hear my cousin, Philippa, talking about her father, who was known and loved by me, as Uncle Jack. Each year when I was young my father and mother, Bertie and Winnie Miles, used to look forward to the sure arrival of a card from Jack and Ruth Fielding of Ree’s farm, Upton-St-Leonards, near Gloucester. Jack and my father were cousins and only 6 months apart in age. They were close friends, both having served at Fielding and Platt and then both surviving the First World War. Thank you Philippa, for looking after all these treasures for so long, and now handing them on to safe hands where, hopefully, more people will be able to enjoy this window into a great Gloucester company, and the very special Fielding Family.
