Who would buy a copy?

By Ollie Taylor

Over the course of the project, many people asked if we were going to produce a book on Fielding & Platt. Unfortunately we were not able to do this in the time we had for the project, but we still hope it may be possible in the future. In the meantime, thank you for all your messages of support for the idea.

If you would subscribe to buy a copy, then please say so by adding a comment at the bottom of this page or leaving us a message on the message board.

What would the book include?

The book would be a history of the company told through the material held at Gloucestershire Archives and the living memories of those who worked for the company. It would be beautifully illustrated with previously unpublished maps and photographs held in the Fielding and Platt collection at Gloucestershire Archives.

If there is something that you would like to see specifically in such a book then please add what you'd like to see in a comment below or leave a message on the message board.

How much would the book cost?

The book would cost between £12.99 and £14.99.

Thanks Tim, you're the first on the list! I hope that enough people express a wish for the book in writing so that we can turn it into a reality. Please spread the word about this and encourage people to get in touch if they'd like to see a Fielding book go to press!

Thanks Chippy! If we can show that enough people would buy a copy then the publisher may go ahead with the venture - so please spread the word and get people to express their support here!

Yes, I would buy a copy especially if there were photos of three throw pumps during the war years - I believe I am on some of them.

I will gladly buy a copy of said book. I spent over ten years on permanent night shift so I hope some of this probably forgotten shift will be remembered. My address is 222 St. Oswald's Village, Gloucester, GL1 2UG.

Hi Ollie, please do a book on Fielding & Platt. It is part of Gloucester's history & one of the Platts was a writer, we should remember their Family History too.

By Audrey Meredith

Thanks John, memories of the night shifts should certainly be included both on this site and in the book. We don't have many memories of the shift so it'd be great if you could share some of your memories of it John - the atmosphere, characters, routines, and anything unique to the night shifts. You can do so by adding a page to the site yourself. To find out how visit: www.fieldingandplatthistory.org.uk/addyourmemories .

Hi there Ollie, if you do end up writing a book I would love to have a copy. As I work at the Gloucester Quays, I'm always hearing bits and bobs from customers about what they have learnt and the older customers reminiscing too!

By Kerry Lewis

Thanks Kerry! It's lovely to hear that the display on Fielding and Platt at the Quays gets people talking and reminiscing - please do share any of things that people are saying here, or on our page on the display here:

Have you learnt anything from the display too?

Hi Ollie, I was an apprentice at Fielding's (1965 intake) as were my elder brothers, twins Harold and Ralph (1958 intake) so I would certainly buy such a book.
